Lumen BI uses large language models and other AI techniques to help you analyze data, generate dashboards, write narratives, and surface recommendations. This page explains what those AI features can and cannot do, and how you should treat their output.

1. AI outputs are decision support, not professional advice

AI-generated insights, KPIs, forecasts, recommendations, dashboards, presentations, and reports are intended as decision-support tools. They are not legal, financial, accounting, tax, engineering, medical, investment, or other professional advice. You should review and validate AI output with appropriately qualified professionals before relying on it for material business decisions.

2. Accuracy and hallucinations

AI models are probabilistic. They may produce output that is incomplete, biased, out-of-date, or factually incorrect, including statistics, calculations, references to rows that do not exist, or citations to documents you have not uploaded. You are responsible for reviewing AI outputs before using them externally or making business decisions based on them.

3. Data ownership and training

You own all data you upload, connect, or generate in Lumen BI. We do not sell your data and do not use your data, prompts, or outputs to train any foundation model — neither our own nor any third-party model provider's. Where we route a request to a third-party model provider (currently OpenAI), we use API-tier endpoints whose terms contractually exclude customer data from model training.

4. Third-party model providers

AI requests may be processed by one or more third-party model providers selected by us at runtime for quality, cost, latency, or availability. The current list is maintained on our Subprocessors page. We may add or replace providers; material changes are announced in line with our subprocessor notification process.

5. Sensitive data

Do not upload regulated data — payment card data (PCI), protected health information (PHI), government-issued identifiers, or other special-category personal data — unless you have entered into a separate written agreement with us that explicitly covers that data type. Avoid sending secrets, passwords, or API keys to AI features.

6. Human oversight

You are the human in the loop. Configure approval flows, role-based access, and review steps that match the risk of the decision you are automating. Lumen BI provides audit logs, dashboard versioning, and provenance metadata to make that oversight easier.

7. Prohibited uses

You must not use Lumen BI AI features to make automated decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects on individuals without meaningful human review; to generate content that violates our Acceptable Use Policy; or in any way prohibited by applicable AI, data protection, or consumer protection law.
